  • Wilbur and Orville Wright built a glider with a 12-horse power engine, on December 17, 1903. Orville piloted the machine that had a flight of 120 feet. This event occurred at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
  • In 1904, the invention of the ultraviolet light took place.
  • The first movie theater was opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1905.
  • In 1907, one of the first synthetic plastics, Bakelite, was invented by Leo Baekland.
  • In China 1900, the anti-foreigner Boxers occupy Beijing. The international force ended both the siege and the Boxer Rebellion.
  • In 1901, Queen Victoria died on January, 22 after a reign of 64 years, and was suceeded by her son, Edward VII.
  • In 1902, Cuba gained its independence from Spain.
  • In 1903, Panama declared independence from Colombia.
  • In 1900, The University of Yale won the NCAA basketball championship.
  • In 1904, the teddy bear was first produced, it was named after the president Theodore Roosevelt.
  • In 1907, Chicago beat Detroit 4 to 1 in the World Series.
  • In 1909,The Ottawa Senators won the Stanley cup.
